Samal Island, Davao Adventure!

Samal Island

If it is that time when you begin to yearn for your feet in the sand, remember Davao City is just an hour and a half travel by plane from Manila. You can pack a bag for a day or two and come enjoy its eye-catching beaches. The City will make it worth your while with their water activities. It is also called the city of Durian - the notorious fruit. It's smell could be far different on it's taste. Some might disagree, but I personally like Durian Shake!

How to Get to Samal Island

There’s no direct flight going to Samal Island. Hence, it is accessible via Francisco Bangoy International Airport also known as Davao Int’l Airport. 1 hr & 30 mins travel time if you are coming from Manila, and 1 hr & 55 mins from Clark airport.
From Davao Int’l. airport, you have two options on how to go to Sasa Ferry Wharf: one (1) ride a cab which is available in the departure area, or two (2) walk your way out of the airport and look for public vehicles (jeepneys) that will pass by Sasa Ferry Wharf. Travel time depends on the traffic situation.
  • ·     Traffic in Davao City is tantamount to Manila’s traffic, so be ready.
  • ·   I highly suggest to grab your supplies from the nearest malls (SM Mall or Gaisano Mall) if you opt to stay overnight in the island, as prices in Samal is “of course” quite pricey
  • ·   From Sasa Ferry Wharf, ride a ferry going to Samal Island. Fare is 10.00Php, travel time is less than 10 minutes.

Getaway with Family

Like the rest of the Philippines, Davao is hot, its hottest months being April and May when daytime temperatures frequent the lower 34C. Instead, shoot for December to February. It’s the coolest and driest time of the year.

Festival goers will prefer to visit Davao in August when the annual Kadayawan Festival is held. Be warned that this is the most popular time of the year to visit, with the most number of tourists and the highest prices. Reserving a hotel room months in advance is a must.

During our first day in Davao we went to Samal Island where we snorkel and see those giant clams which is also a great tourist attraction of the province. The clams resemble huge colorful flowers. Their colors vary from violet to green, brown, blue and yellow. It is part of an eco-tourism industry and considered as endangered. They are under the security of Davao del Norte.

There are other white sand beach and attractions near Samal Island.  The water is bluish - crystal clear,  the combination of sunny and windy weather made our trip more relaxing. The best part was when we swim in the middle of the ocean, beneath us are different kinds of fish and some big turtles.

On the next few days we had our city tour, went to museum and learn about the city's cultural heritage, walk down a market to taste dishes from family recipes and walk through acres of wildlife and Eden Nature Park to create lifelong memories.

Love Not Nails

Sea of Galilee O pinions on fake news is getting worse, misinformation in social media rapidly circulates.  People are excessively concern of themselves and malicious comments are trending online. I've sensed so much hate, I've heard a lot of demands. This brought me to pause and dropped my phone and shut it off. I'm done praying when I grabbed my Bible to read.  The Holy Spirit took me to 1 Corinthians 13:4-13 and it recites the verses of love. I can always read this passage again and again because the word love is so rich and true. Words can't express enough, totally powerful, ineffable. He illuminates verse 7, "Love never gives up, and its faith, hope and patience never fail." Love perfectly describes as eternal. Spurgeon once preached, "God is a sun that never sets." Indeed, the picture of the Cross is the best demonstration of love and truth, because it is love, not nails, what held Jesus on that cross and His love surpassed death because it doe...

Ready or Not?

Perhaps you're wanting to start a new ministry, perhaps you're wanting to apply to another job or perhaps you wanted to get serious with someone you really like. Whatever it may be, there are seasons that God may tell us we are not ready but then later on, He will let us know when we are ready. These are my common realizations in the waiting as I traced God's way of telling me or encouraging me to do something new or start stepping into the unfamiliar place. If you're one of my closest, you know that I'm the type of person who won't do something if I know I'm not ready, or I didn't prepare myself for it. That's why I think carefully before writing this piece, because we have different personalities, levels of spiritual discernment, and of course God can speak to us in various ways. These realizations I share are based on my own experience, discernment, and meditation of The Word in connection of some events in the past where I strongly sensed God tel...

(Yhwh) our God Cannot Lie

Trying to take my mind off any racing thoughts. But it doesn't work, still wide awake. I realized it's already midnight, so I tend to pray again a little, return to bed. Staring at the dark ceiling, toss and turn, then noticed it's been already an hour since I last checked the time.       Thinking of something deep, seeking God for clear answers about matters of heart.  Asking him like, "really Lord, you said yes, and this is for real?.... But why it seemed I don't see any signs?", "Did I heard you right ?"  or "Am I only getting impatient?..." Then it is even getting harder to catch a sleep.  There are times that I sincerely prayed for something, committing all my strength to wait on it, believing  that I heard the Lord clearly with the confirmation of the Scripture. But there were days that doubts start rising, and not always in the mood to praise. Times when all of the sudden, I simply want to stop and tell God, " did ...
